What happened to:
The Don; sold to a Chinese company she sank in the south china sea (foundered to be correct) with only 3 survivors in 1998.
The Fjord; must have just kept going and going she was scrapped around 2009, there are some great pics of her on shipspotting.com, use IMO 7115048, she had been renamed but had reverted to her original name in the photos,

I joined Silver Line in 1967 as a Deck Cadet. My first ship was the Aldersgate (Later renamed Silvershore). Later vessels were the Silverweir, Silvercape. I moved on to Houlder Brothers in 1971 and Panocean in 1972. The Ore carriers were great for those who liked to be home regularly and the tramps were usually away for a long time so crew got to know each other quite well. The chemical tankers were very small and in those days quite dangerous to be on. I remember a young Officer with the surname Snowdon who died in one of the tanks. I was on the Silverweir in China when she was crushed br ice and sprung a leak in one of the holds. A very memorable adventure.

best ship ever for me the aldersgate ......good feeder ......plenty overtime ,,,,,,home uk regular ......1960 to 61......ithink it was her second voyage when i joined her in shields....after 9 10 and 11 months on tramps it was nice to have the feeling of going back to shields when i felt like it.....cappy

I sailed with Silverline for around three years, very good company, the carried specialised cargo, cars, chemicals etc ,I was on the Silvereid, which carried the chemical which was used for the petrol for leaded cars, very dangerous cargo, when loading all crew had to wear breathing apparatus and everyone from the captain down had to go for a urine test in every port, the company was very forward looking in personnel terms, the pay was great, on average I did a six month trip and then had three months paid leave.
I was told that when the ship was no further use it would be filled with cement and sunk in the Pacific , it could not be sold or scrapped, we broke down off Vigo in northern Spain, engineers flew out but could not repair engines so we were towed to Thessalonika to load cargo and then towed to Rotterdam and then to the uk where I paid off.

hello Vernon, I served for a short time on the 'silverpelegrin' running sulphuric acid up the coastline of north America, the ship loaded at a small port called 'Gaspe' on the mouth of the saint Lawrence seaway in Canada, then would run down the coast unloading at different chemical plants, i.e Baltimore, New London, St Johns, and Mexico,

I joined Silverline on the MV Silvertweed in Philadelphia 2 days before Christmas 1976 with about a dozen others. The ship was a 6 hatch geared bulker carrying bulk sugar. The river was frozen, they had to put mini bulldozer into the holds to break up the sugar. We were stuck there for a month until we got it all out, very cold. Went on to sail on the Silverclyde, Silverfjiord, Silvertweed again which became Argotweed before being sold to Greeks. These ships were all geared bulkers. I then transferred to the tanker side.
