    Default Ben Line

Hi All You Ben Line Men!,
I've always been intrigued by(and used to be wary of!) those Freak Waves that 'Bencruachan' encountered in 1973. The Admiralty Sailing Directions-that's Pilot Book to you and me-always made reference to the Bencruachan contretemps.
I know there's details elsewhere, but I like this little site(below). Nice tale about a 'chess set' too!

    Hi Gulliver.
I apologies for taken this off thread, but there was another incident , 67 i think. When one of the castle fridge boats left Port Elizabeth, she was going up the coast to Durban( but not sure) She left with the sticks still up so she wasn't going far. There was also a bad weather forecast for the area. We saw her the next day, the sticks had broken free and one had wiped out the bridge.( Trying to get the grey cells working). There where injuries and a death. But she looked a mess. We were told it was a freak cape roller that done the damage.
been in those rollers in bad weather and its not a nice place to be.
