Hi Vernon, I joined the sheafwear in January 1965 and enjoyed three happy trips on her as Assistant steward. Happy days.

I did three trips on the Sheafwear in 1965. She was a happy ship and first got promoted on her. Does anyone know where I might get a photo of her.I have one of all my old ships bar her. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

I joined Souters in 1969 I joined the Bamburgh Castle, as 4th Engineer, I believe Andy Mcnaught was Second engineer at the time, typical ore carrier for Britiish Steel, I liked that ship, my favourite was Sheaf Mount, and Lindisfarne though I did not like the Sheaf Tyne, the engines where a mess, Most of the crews where good though. I was second on the Irish Wasa and Lindisfarne with Captain Wilson, a hard man but I got on well with him. I wanted to go on the Sheaf Field but the office insisted I stayed on the Ore Carriers so I left and joined Blandford Shipping where I eventually became chief Engineer, their ships where more modern than Souters ship.
Do you have contact with anyone else in Souters? I would like to make contact with them if possible.
    Regards and take care.
    Dave

I was for a short while on the Sheaf Field, joined her at the tail of the bank Greenock Sep 25th 1965, did two iron oar trips to Murmansk Russia and back to Middlesbrough, then to Monrovia Liberia, Holland and Sweden, paid off at Middlesbrough Dec 28th. Happy Ship with a good bunch of lads but little to show for it by the time the New year came.

Well Vernon, there was the White Star line we all know of, but there was also a Re star Line.
What do you know about that one?
