Alistair Stewart
I went to Glasgow Nautical College 1972-1974 with Alastair Stewart. We became good friends in that time and after college he joined his ship as I did. I was a BP engineer cadet and after my first trip went to South Shields Marine & Tech while Alistair went back to Glasgow.
I only met him once again but a few years ago I was told Alistair was killed in an accident at sea. Does anybody know if this is correct and if so what happened. I left the the MN (Silver Line) in 1980 for the Ministry of Defence.

Seasons greetings
How goes it Rob,
Don't know who started the rumour I am dead but can assure you I am very much alive. Have been living in Brasil for the last 24years.
Left Savills and went to Wimpey Marine working in the North Sea, made redundant by them and went to Maersk who I have been with for the last 25 years (nearly get the watch in Feb2011). Started with them on the offshore fleet working in Brasil where I met my wife. remained 9 years in the offshore fleet before transfering to the container fleet where I remained untill last year when they asked me to return to the Offshore fleet due to the shortage of experienced engineers. My last container ship was the Maersk Boston which was one of the group layed up in Loch striven for a year.
Currently on board the Maersk Tackler, a anchor handler working with the Castoro 6 laying the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic.
Will be getting off on the 22nd Dec and spending my leave in Edinburgh with the wife, parents now living in North Berwick.
Mobile number is +44 (0)7946499148 call me any time after the 22nd.
Alistair
