    Default Last Reunion

The last Reunion of the Shaw Savill Society is taking place this weekend at the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton. This was scheduled for 2020 but was cancelled due to Covid. We are expecting around 140. Sadly there is quite a few who booked two years ago won’t be with us. We will be welcoming the spouses of those who have crossed the Bar.

    Dear Mr. Gallagher,
When you say 'last' reunion due you mean 'latest' or does this mean 'the final' reunion meeting?

    Hi Adrian

The Reunion in May 2022 was the Final Reunion for the Shaw Savill Society in UK, originally planned for May 2020 but delayed due the pandemic.
The NZ Branch held their Final Reunion in Auckland in 2018.
The UK Society held reunions every year since the first one in Bristol in 1985, in NZ, we had reunions every alternative year with the Australian Branch till it eventually closed about 20 years ago, and many Australians joined the NZ Branch.
    Cheers Jamie

Hi Des, a few stalwarts of our Shaw Savill group in NZ, have enjoyed mini gatherings in Cromwell, (2018) Wairakei (2019) Picton (2020) and Wanganui (2021) where we have managed to muster about 30, except for Picton when most of the country was in lockdown, and only 9 were able to attend. We are hoping for another one this year, if we get sufficient support. I understand the UK branch have also a mini gathering in the pipeline. Our numbers keep on dwindling as with many societies. and clubs and soon our times together will be just a memory for those who survive.

What’s up at Whangerai now or are you referring to a port with a different spelling . In 1973 was employed on the coast running from the refinery there with a full load of petrol or gasoline to all the garages as far south as Bluff. Is that the same port ? There were 3 tankers employed on the coast then . 1 kiwi, and 2 foreign , us and a Greek.being foreign we were only allowed 3 months on the coast and then had to go elsewhere before coming back at a later date and repeating. Hi John.
Wanganui is between New Plymouth and Wellington, Whangarie as you know is up on the Pacific side of the North Island.

Lost again Des someone’s been fiddling with my vernier. Got rid of all the plastic pipework on Friday that was a load off my mind. Nice nurse ( female) had the decency to pull the curtains round the bed and not laugh when doing it. JS

You were lucky there John, when mine was removed it was by a male, a very male type one at that.
Said you might need this as he shoved a pad into my hand.
