    Thumbs up Ken Potts

Hi Ken, The Alaric was my first ship after sea school. I joined her in London a few weeks after you left. The crew told me about a storm in the Bay of Biscay , Do you remember it. Enjoed my 2 years aboard. Good crew and officers. Skipper was a gentleman. Thanks for the information Ken. Hope to hear from you again.

    Hi Martin!
You are right - the Skipper was a gentleman. Someone told me that he was the youngest Skipper in Shaw Saville at the time.
I do remember a horrendous storm on the Alaric but it wasn't in the Bay of Biscay it was 4 days from New Zealand, homeward bound in the Pacific. We had bales of wool stacked two high on top of the hatches and sheeted and lashed down. The seas were so strong that a lot of this deck cargo broke loose. I remember it well as it was one of my scariest times at sea. Trying to lash down this deck cargo in attrocious conditions.
Like you , I thoroughly enjoyed my trips on the Alaric.
    Kind Regards
    Ken

Hullo I was also on the Alaric, somewhere about this time. I was the Captains Tiger, the only Londoner on a ship with a full Liverpool crew ( most difficult) I believe I may remember your Father, was he a Greaser ? or perhaps another job in the Engine Room ?
    Regards, Archie.

I joined Alaric after pre-sea in 61 and you are right it was a very happy ship. Wool shifting on hatch lids was very common. Bhe was a very fast ship and we used to race the Dutch competion. Many great memories especially in Napier. Captains name was Shulton if i remember rightly and a great skipper.
