    Cool 7 Years with S.S.A.

I joined the Athenic in Auckland N.Z. as 3rd Fridge in 1964, did 1 & a half trips on her then Joined the Waiwera in 1965. She was a real workup but a happy ship. She was sold to the Greeks whilst being laid up on the Tyne in Oct. 1967 but luckilly the Canopic was on the Tyne as well so i joined her as 4th. Eng. I joined the Majestic in 1968 and did my final trip on the Amalric in 1970 as 3rd, Eng. when i swallowed the anchor to get married. The Shaw Savill Society is thriving in N.Z. and reunions are held every 2 years and are well attended by members from Oz and even the U.K.

hi barney. welcome to the site. i was on the canopic in 1957 (my last trip)
i joined the S.S.A. but found that all the reunions were in top class venues ie five star hotels and seemed to consist of captains and shore staff and ex passengers so i didn't renew my membership. cheers. alf

    Default Shaw Savill Society

Hi Alf, I've heard the U.K. reunions are very formal ones, namely black tie affairs. We are more casual downunder and have a good cross section of members from all departments. I am atte4nding rhe reunion in Edinburgh this year so it will be a new experience for me.
    Cheers,
    Barney

G'day William and welcome to the site, best there is. Do you maybe have a list of your ships with some dates to with them? If so and you care to list them you may well get to hear from some who knew you. So sit back with a cold one and enjoy the voyage.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
