    John
I was a slate and chalk boy, and in rainy weather I used to wear my grandad's first war [He died of gas poisoning} Gas cape, the back had a diagonal piece hanging down that kept the back of my boots dry, I think it was made of rubber, bloody heavy.

Des, there is no answer to that apart from one that might get you into strife.

The photo of the Nautical Catering College would be the one that was built in 1965 (?) in Canning Place, next door to the old Sailors Home and which I spent time 1966 - 1969. So it wouldn't be same college as this John Albert Evans. 'Dickie Bonds' was a catering college.....in Colquitt St.?

While I was There for the Last Time in about the mid 70's, I remember there were just 2 guys from Ghana. They were both doing the catering officers course for the second time. They had both failed the first time possibly due to a liking of the ladies in Parliament Street and guinness. They both worked for a Ghanaian shipping company and loved the U.K. The only other non British I met there were the occasional guy from the Republic of Ireland. As far as the closing of the college goes, I think was probably the same as most things maritime in the U.K. There were no ships, no crews and the college like the seamen become redundant.

Hi, The photo you posted of Dickie Bonds catering college Liverpool, is not correct. Dickie Bonds was in Ranelagh street. The photo you posted looks like the old seamans flying angel mission.
    Cheers Roy.
