Hi Jimmy, I was at the Vindi in 1959. Great memories well some anyway.
I actually run a branch the Severn Area Branch. We have a Facebook page and a website.
I have also made quite a few YouTube films about the Vindi and the camp as it is now. You may be interested. If you can get onto YouTube in the search bar type vindialan all lowercase. I think you will find them interesting.
    Best wishes Alan Chandler

hi, i was at vindi august 1963 till november 63. discharge no. R796112, can't remember any of the guys there, but can recall being selected to represent the merchant service at remembrance day at the albert hall, remember being marched around the camp numerous times with an instructor with a limp, can't recall his name. The march across the albert hall is just a blur with lights and music in your face. I think the tv cameras where there, would be interested in viewing any tv footage around if anyone knows where to find it.

    Hi John.
A block named Brown was the Camp sports instructor, but if he had a limp it could have bee Popeye. He was on the Altmark as a prisoner when saved by the RN off Norway during the war.

I can well remember George Strange the officer, with a name like that easy for me.
But there was a local barber who came in once a week to cut hair on new boys who needed it.
Gay as any of them and the lads always had fun telling the new boys how he would like them!!!!
    Happy daze John in Oz.
