    Default Boxing at the Indi

I can remember while I was at the Indi. there was a number of boxing tournaments, and all boys had to fight. The number of rounds fought being two. By sheer good fortune, on the tournament day, I had a huge boil on my left upper leg, and I got out of the boxing match. I did not get off scot free. The C/O a Mr Wade sent me up to LLanfair thingy-ma-jig, to see the local quack. He lanced the offending pus filled lump, and I am told the Irish heard my scream of agony, across in that beautiful place. The second tournament I remember well. I had to box against the best friend I had in that place. I lost, and my best friend never talked to me again. Oh, how absolutely terrible and lonely I felt. I am totally convinced the huge puss filled throbbing ugly boil was due to that person in the galley we called "The Cook". If he perchance found his way to Heaven, and is the cook in charge, I am not going their. I wish you all well.Anthony Atkinson R796905.

Hi Anthony, you mentioned the little Welsh cook
For the life of me I can only remember one meal in all my time there, A Green mincemeat curry that was cooked by the Storeman, the only other things food wise was a very small lump of Echo Margarine plus a dollop of Jam on a plastic plate every meal. URGH.
My mind seems to have blocked the rest out, I wonder why ?

Good food mate, nothing quite like it! Echo and jam on a plastic plate, I know some bread like that.

I seem to be in a minority of one with regards to the food at Indie - especially the potato, cheese and onion pie

Does anyone remember how it was cooked or have a recipe for it, from memory, it just had those three basic ingredients, maybe a bit of salt and pepper.

    Hi Don
Must admit if cooked correctly it would have a nice savory appeal to it but it needs something else on the side Bacon ?
Come on you blokes from Catering, what would compliment a proper Cheese, Onion & Potato Pie, and as Don says the recipe ? I think it was in white sauce and no pastry

    Anthony / Don
Do you remember how hungry you were there ? Bloody starving I suspect
I remember hearing George Washinton Irvin (capt) talking to Jack Snape (his go-for) about how they had no food waste at the "Indie" unlike " HMS Conway ".
They had no waste as they only gave us enough food to survive.

I well remember the shite that passed as food at the Indy. I also remember the little Welsh Cook who over saw the lads who had failed their MN eye sight test for EDH. 14 years old and no further academic schooling, just working (Being taught) in the galley.
I remember the green curry, rubber eggs, bacon that tasted of fish, corn beef hash, so dry you could have used it as a brillo pad. One time I had to work in the dining hall party. Taking a slab of marg. out of it's packet cutting it into 16 portions!
Hunger was only dissapated on a Saturday and that was after buying egg, bacon, chips, beans and a bread roll down in Menai Bridge.
Why on Earth would anyone want to reproduce any of that bilge?

As for the Pay parade? it was a chance for the Bully Boys to see who had received what, and then to allow them to target them better.

The CPO Boy when I was there, was Ginger Davies.

If it was today, we would be inline for compensation. Lol

Never attented the Vindi myself, but by the standards of today sounds like a form of child abuse !
