All the time I spent on tankers never once did I have a training course on fires, we were told by the Mate when going down to clean the sludge, how may tugs on the rope would get you pulled out and a few other things, was on a tanker where we pulled out three blokes who where lucky, ended up in hospital in Antwerp. That is when I decided to take any ones wheel time, and spent most tank cleaning days on the wheel.

This is the latest information on the carriage of SCABA sets and emergency escape sets on U.K ships.
The latest sets I saw were lightweight with, I think, Carbon fibre bottles and with headsets that had built in communication sets. Saw them whilst doing 5 day fire fighting course in shields and maybe they could be available for shipboard use, though possibly too expensive for most shipowners.

Hi John.
Looks like they haven't changed the signals, they are probably universal,. I remember wearing a head piece with a hose into the back and a bloke on deck pumping a bellows with his foot, sometime stopping for a chat, had to pull on the safety rope to wake him up.
