Those pictures makes one wonder if the reports of her sinking where correct, I remember the shock at hearing about it, but from what i can remember she blew to pieces and there where very few survivors, in those pics she doesn't look as damaged as one would think?

But at the time so many stories about how she ended up.

You have to put everything into context, we MN are used to serving on vessels that were constructed from 5/8" to 1" inch steel easily disintegrated when faced with explosions of any magnitude as in WWII when carrying explosives. RN vessels of 'Hood'Class are normally constructed of 3" to 4" steel with armoured belts of 7" to 10" steel and beyond. When the magazine (amidships) exploded it was concentrated on that midship section, it would not be logical for the bow and stern to disintegrate to the same extent, hence the almost intact photos of the parts depicted, some collateral damage could be expected to those sections, but not disintegration. The midship section is probably lying in bits in the debri-field.

I would agree with Ivan. If it's blown up by a bomb, no matter how many pieces, unfortunately, it's still in bits at the bottom of the sea, along with the crew.

Think it was 3 who survived. Just brings home the horrors of war 1415 souls lost in a blink of an eye.
The real tragedy is the RN knew there was design issue in her magazines. But yet appeared to do nothing during the 17 years she was in service.

I was only a kid when we heard about her getting hit, but I remember the newspapers and the news that there were only a few survivors after the magazine went up.My vision as a kid was nothing left.
