New build orders

The Government announced earlier in the week that an order had been placed with BAE for five new warships to be built at Govan.
A further order was placed with H&W Belfast for three new replenishment ships.
These ships will be built in sections in the UK and transported to Belfast where they will be assembled.

Tried to post about the new fleet replenishment ships yesterday. I wonder if Belfast was chosen for assembly because they could assemble two at the same time giving economies of scale and time.

Spanish shipbuilders are also involved somewhere in the mix, the M O D when questioned stated that they have to put their requirements out to international tender, since when, we left that all behind when exiting Brexit.

Try telling the Yanks/Russians/Chinese that they have to put out their requirements to international tender, not only is everything home built, they all have a Cabotage system operating. Any Tom, Dick or Harry can carry UK goods from one UK port to another UK port

Ah! well! Vic, so much for defeating the Armada, the Spanish now get to build British ships in British yards, bet Sir Francis is rotating in his grave and uttering a few choice words.

H&W was bought by UK based company Infrastrata.
In August 2020, InfraStrata (owners of Belfast shipyard Harland and Wolff) bought the dormant shipyard for £7 million. The deal saw the shipyard renamed H&W Appledore.

All they need to do now is build to budget and due delivery date and more work will follow.

Got it wrong, H&W owned by Infrastrata.
H&W signed an agreement with Navantia of Spain for joint development of ships.

Vic, can you explain why you say I got it wrong please? My understanding is H&W & Appledore were bought by Infrastrata in the summer/autumn 2019 for £7 million.
They have formed a partnership with Navantia to bid for the new MOD contract.
Team Resolute is made of 3 companies BEM , H&W(Appledore) and Navantia UK

Details of Team Resolute are already well publicised. Harland & Wolff, Belfast and UK naval architecture house, BMT provide British leadership. In reality, their proposal would be very reliant on their Spanish partner Navantia, to provide expertise, given H&W’s small workforce and lack of any recent shipbuilding experience. The first ship would probably be built in Spain with technology and skills transferred to Belfast to enable the construction of the later ships.

It would appear Sturgeon in Scotland is not a happy bunny, something about the rights of Scottish ship yards.
