    Default Trafalgar to jutland

Interesting article on how the royal navy lost far more ships at Jutland than the German navy and it draws parallels with today's USA navy.

Although technically a defeat for the RN in terms of ships lost, many historians claim it as victory of the RN.
After the battle German Navy never left port for the duration of the war.
There was interesting programme on TV about this battle last year, it examined the complex nature of Jellicoe and Beattie, neither could tolerate the other.

#4 when all these armchair warriors talk about the likes pf the Jervis Bay cappy and it is depicted as steaming straight towards the enemy with not a cat in hell’s chance of taking on a more powerful vessel , believe the master was awarded the VC think his name was Fogarty or something. I think of all those others battened down not knowing what was going on , but probably knowing they were going to their deaths. It is these people who should of received all the acclamations. Life is never fair in love or war one might say. Look at that general Lord Kitchener who wasted all those lives in the Great War on the western front , and was laden down with awards for sending thousands to their deaths without a qualm. I know you sometimes have to make decisions which cost life’s but how many could have done the job a bit better ? JS.

yes john i recall i think his name was fogarty fegan ......surely a death or glory boy ...with great courage .....but did he have the right to take so many others on such an ill fated attack ....war ses yes .....given the choice many would have said no ....at least perhaps on a battlefield people could duck and dive ....but on the merchant vessels in that convoy nowhere to duck and dive too.....but then i wasnt there so what really happened depends on what or who you were at the time regards cappy

It also depends on the media and the reports that they receive from others which are stated as official. In other words the dead can’t even speak from the grave. The dead are the real heroes of any war. JS.

When men refuse to fight there will be no more wars!!!!

Western front ww1 Christmas day truce , a game of football and the Generals said Duck this for a game of soldiers we have come here for a war. The lads went back to the trenches and well the rest is history, All because two cousins fell out and millions paid in blood.

Victoria and her offspring have caused more turmoil than any other family, virtually the whole of Europe and Russia , one hell of a family, kt
