The average man, or possibly any man (or woman or any lgbtxyz) have no idea about the MN in general never mind what they were asked to do in certain parts of the world, and they wouldn't believe us if we told them.

Keith instead of complaining your thread has been hijacked away from mines on Cornish beaches and inserting a few snide remarks, you should be grateful that your post has awakened memories from actual experiences that even the majority of seafarers were not aware, so it is a learning curve, where-in we never stop learning from each other.

Had Colin's Sounding recorder paper have been found by the military that boarded every ship inbound and outbound and they searched (ransacked) every cabin then the Master and all bridge officers would have faced serious jail time. I was on a ship where the Master complained about his crew's treatment and said he wanted to see the British Consul, he was told, 'yes Captain you can see British Consul, but first you have to get to him' there was no chance of that, I even had to have an armed guard with me when reading the draft each day and in addition had to show my Chinese issued identity card on leaving the gangway to read the draft and show it again before boarding again, even though I had an armed guard with me at all times.

Those unaware of POB it means 'Pilot on Board'

Not just China , Ivan, some middle east countries are every bit as bad. Saudi Arabia, cameras had to be put in the bond, depending which port you were paying off at you either lost your camera at the port gate when the customs threw your gear about the place. Mostly they were looking for any reading material they could confiscate (so they could enjoy themselves later in private). Also it was not unusual to have an armed escort to read the draught.
The USA also has it's fair share of Bull sh-t especially since 911. But yes the in those days , before my time I have heard the stories, several Blue Funnel ships had personal lifted.
When I was on the British Skill we went up to Kharg Island during the Iran Iraq war the RN asked us to note down what ships were alongside what was left of the jetties.

When living in Dubai (70's), our newspapers and magazines were full of black squares where the censors had been at work, even a hint of cleavage was blacked out, photographs of little boys from behind were never adulterated by the pen.

Remember it well, good to see things have moved on in Dubai since those days ask Princess Latifa or her sister Shamsa.

Getting back to mines again. I remember when the Gulf war? was over the way the USA decided to clear mines was to send a reflagged Kuwait tanker company (US Flagged) The tanker, the 400,000-ton Bridgeton, anchored off Kuwait tonight, and Kuwaiti oil officials said the explosion had caused limited damage below the waterline.

Ivan, I think that if parents practice social distancing more comments such as those you replied to would not occur
