Re: Desperately seeking Grandad. James Harold Prichard
Thank you. its so much easier to find army records lol. My Mother has now filled out the forms. i know during this time of crisis thing will take longer than normal. she had to also apply for his death cert to send along with her request. And it seems each individual was given their service records on leaving so these are now sadly lost. after Grandad died my Nana with children to feed married again and my step Grandfather was a nasty man. He made her burn most of her past. This quest is reminding me of conversations with my Nan before she passed over about my Grandad, i do remember the look of utter loss on her face for the love she had for him.
Re: Desperately seeking Grandad. James Harold Prichard
Would like to hear if you manage to find his records. I think Rupert's will be a lot easier, there are not so many of his name. I think I might have found his service number. Rupert Frederick Prichard born 1915 South Africa.
I can send details by private message if you wish
Maureen

Re: Desperately seeking Grandad. James Harold Prichard
Hello Keith Yes this information is correct. I have found passenger lists for Harold James Prichard leaving the UK destination south Africa and coming back to UK about a week before Mary Elizabeth Prichard. And along with Mary and their 6 children (James Harold Prichard) being 1 of them their was a G M Brand which we suspect to be Marys sister.
Thank you for your help.
Kind Regards Eric

Re: Desperately seeking Grandad. James Harold Prichard
Hoping someone can explain more of the seaman's uniform, approx. 1944 ? Hat has HMS, cannot see any name of ship etc. adding two pics of the uniform arms, one showing (L) possible some kind of star, maybe a torpedo and below the letter L. The other chevrons / stripes (R) denoting some kind of rank? Any help would be appreciated. Guessing at sub marine detector 1st class - leading seaman but as said educated guess.
Regards, Keith.

Re: Desperately seeking Grandad. James Harold Prichard
Seems to be a Lance Corporal with the Sub Mariner Group , that is i think as you say a Sub on the one Sleeve with Star and L Indicates Leading Seaman Torpedoman Attachment 30023
Re: Desperately seeking Grandad. James Harold Prichard
I think you will find that the single stripe on the left arm is a Good Conduct stripe. So he is a Leading Seaman ( Torpedo Branch ) with a 4 years Good Conduct stripe. 1 Stripe = 4 years - 2 stripes 8 years and 3 stripes 12 years Good Conduct.
