    Default Black Tot day

Today is the anniversary of the last day the Tot was issued in 1970, a sad day and the loss of an old Naval tradition

Sad day as you say Bill, my mother and my fathers side all came from Portsmouth, and as dad says, Pompey was full of matelots, and the city buzzing, he is long dead now, and as an ex Royal Marine said many times how the matelots in the later years were long haired and not as smart as in his day, but then i suppose we are the same on this site, yearning for the old days, kt

So Bill, if they are no longer giving the tot, what or whom is going to?

Nice one Bill - I was in the RN at that time, working in Cyprus alongside Army, and Airforce. The navy guys decided that 'the tot will not die' - that was our battle cry - So, each lunchtime we gathered in the mess to ceremoniously imbibe a tot of 'Pussers' in the best traditions of the RN. As for me, the habit has never gone away and, at 79 I still enjoy a tot at lunchtime - keeps me going!! Best wishes. Pete Jackson

We used to try and make a MN rule regarding a tot ration, every time we hit South/Central America for Bananas we issued ourselves a bottle or two of Happy Apps
