Hi Robpage, we have but it is not a very good form of government as it often sees the most popular, not the wise, elected to office.

    Default Somalia Pirates

I wish Mr and Mrs Chandler a Merry Christmas in their incarceration. A shameful episode in the history of the RFA. The quicker they get Filipinos into this organization the better it will be.
I do not want to pay for this organization anymore. Disgraceful!!

Well Alf I saw the Queen here at 19.20hrs last night. She still talks a lot of sence. I have great admiration for her and the fortitude she shows. As head of a 53 nation Commonwealth she is right to say that as a body that group has a strong say in world affairs. Hope you had a great day.

    Default piracy pays.

in the UK you can be sent to prison for non payment of council tax, and your household posessions confiscated, become a pirate and get away with it ? or if caught have your weapons taken and be sent home to get more weapons and do it again, just shows the unfairness of so called law, these scum are laughing at the whole world, the only nation so far to teach them a lesson was india, sink them on sight and arm merchant ships, it does not make sense that small skiffs with outboard motors can outwit highly sophisticated modern naval ships, if they can then the navy should be scrapped as being useless. the goverment should change the rules of engagement, to sink on sight ! Default silly billy.s

Now for the navy to fire at the poor pirates would not be cricket Old Boy.
It's as bad as the army in NI had to check in their little book before they could return fire.
What a piece of silly rules.
Bring back MAD MITCH. he would sort them out.
And lets face it . "would you take your wife on a wee boatty and sail thro these waters. No chance.
But I still hope tyhe couple will be sent home safe.

Shame that the Navy has been cut to the barest minimum , They haven't got the ships or men left to protect what is left of the Merchant Navy , If we spent less on MP's and their expenses , we may have more left for armour in Afghanistan , Sinkings of pirates in Somalia and a safer world

    Default Somalia Pirates

A British flagged chemical tanker the St James Park has been taken by the pirates in the Gulf of Aden. There is not a British person on board the vessel.

A previous post mentioned Mad Mitch. I was on a Blue funnel ship in the area when the Crater area of Aden was taken by Colonel Mitchell. The area was put under what he called "Argyll Law" and a politician referred to his regiment the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders as "A bunch of Glasgow Thugs".

I met Colonel Mitchell years ago and I found him a fine man even though he was English, he could not do much about that. Now over the bar.

    regards
    jimmy
