Thanks Hugh! I have all 5, this is just the first one. Now that you say Present in action it comes clear to me. I would never have realised the comments meant he received a Good conduct badge and chevrons (whatever they are lol) wish me luck on reading the rest of his records.

Let me know if you need any help - RNR records are very difficult to interpret. Good luck.

Hugh can you tell me what a R.V.6 is and what R.T.S. stands for? I know R.V.2 is his certificate of enrollment. But can't find anything online regards to the others.

    Thanks

    Quick update for your info:

Rather than barracks, I believe the term is shore base.

In 1922, HMS Victory was moved to a dry dock at Portsmouth, England, and preserved as a museum ship.

    Keith.

    RN Shore Establishments.

A common question is "why is my great-great grandfather shown as serving in HMS Victory - wasn't she obsolete in WW1??". Yes, that famous sailing ship was obsolete, and she certainly wasn't expected to see combat against the Kaiser's dreadnoughts! However, she (at least her name) did play an important role: as the name of a Shore Establishment. https://www.gwpda.org/naval/rnshore.htm

That link is great! Thanks Keith. It will save me some time as he was posted at several of the 'Shore Establishments' mentioned.

I will add ad-hoc if I find more.

Hugh is the best for RN and his knowledge
    valuable.

With regard to HMS VICTORY, Royal Navy barracks is the correct term I can assure you.
