Re: Draw your own conclusions !!!!
Hugh, I left the Seaforth Clansman in 83 or 84, as they found out I was enjoying myself too much, and stuck me back as master on an Anchor Handling tug. I was quite happy to sit there as Ch. Officer with all the perks until I retired if necessary. I knew the first job she had on being released by the Admiralty was looking for diamonds somewhere off the African coast. She was a happy time of my time at sea. Cheers John Sabourn

Alf I think the UK Navy, you do still have one I take it, is a bit like the Public Service, three people to each job. They have to take hollidays, sick days etc and someone has to cover.

Hi J Sabourn # 31, I am intrigued, you were on an RN ship looking for diamonds?
Re: Draw your own conclusions !!!!
They dredge the sea off Angola for Diamonds,
There was a TV show on Mighty Ships all about it.
Cheers
Brian.
Re: Draw your own conclusions !!!!
Was not a R.N. ship it was on charter to the Admiralty. After coming off the MOT charter it was sold and as far as I know finished up off Africa looking for diamonds. Someone on this site looked up and produced photos of ship and its new name(s) and its further history. I am sure whilst I was on her the Navy Divers would have been only be too pleased to be looking for diamonds as against the work they sometimes had to perform. However as regards looking for diamonds I have been involved in a back up situation of looking for diamonds in the Cambridge Gulf in northern Australia. Never managed to slip one into my pocket however. Cheers and best regards John Sabourn
