Default A wee bit of assistance please!

    Hello All!
Well over the Long Weekend,i have been going through some old papers of my late Father!
I came across something that i didnt know, and now would ask if anyone here could assist !

A document of his from his Service in the South African Air Force shows that he was apparently in service with the Royal Navy as well at some stage!
There is an entry which shows dates of from 1934-1935 ??

Then there is another entry for the Transvaal Scottish of 1926-1930,this to puzzles me??
As all of my immediate Family (except my dear Sister)have now departed ,i know nothing of this Service, nor of course does my Sister~
The question is now,a Number is given which i am not sure of !
It is R/O 228/46 ??? What would this Number represent? Could it be a RN Service Number??
Thank you for any light thrown on this issue!
    Cheers

    Hi Vernon.
It could be that the Transvaal Scottish was a regiment of the South African army, the R/O could be reserve officer maybe.
    Cheers Des

Default Thanks for that suggestion Des!

    Hi Des
Yes indeed it was Des,as i have looked at that side of things!
That RO you quote may well be a Key ! Reserve Officer! I will have to delve futher into it!
Then there is still the fact that there is an entry of him being with the Royal Navy 1934-35 !!
This will have to be looked into very deeply.!
Thanks again at least this has a start!
    Cheers

The two Badges attached are of
    1) The Transvaal Scottish which as you mention is an Army Regiment!tsbadge.gif

    2) 8th Infantry Transvaal Scottish

    Hello Vernon,

I can confirm that RO 228/46 is not a RN service number.

Drop them an email and ask if they could advise you.

Contact this address as his records are not at the National Archives.

    Hello Hugh
Sorry for delay in reply (Time Diff) i thank you for this info, and i will certainly write to them asking if they can shed any light on his Service at that time!
I know it was only a short period, but all the bits and pieces must come together for future Family Reference!

    Default Thanks to Alf!

    Thanks Alf
Yes mate that was the first thought in my mind!
As i have now got his Number when in the Transvaal Scottish,i have sent a letter to them in South Africa asking for more details on his service!
It could still well be that the Number shown was indeed for the T Scottish and possible he was a Radio Op! ??
He did a course as well for that whilst in the SAAF.
All these things that one has to saerch! haha!
But well worth it al in the end, well if there is an end! Mmmmmm!!
    Cheers

PS Hope you and her indoors are well!

Is it possible he was something to do with the Fleet Air Arm, hence the RN link?
