I'm trying to remember which of the "D" boats it was that had a fire in one of the cold rooms whilst alongside the meat berth in the Royals. We were berthed astern of her and not surprisingly it caused a bit of a panic. Think it must have been around 1967-8.

Rosario.
Did the BA run in early '65 on Lamport & Holt's "Defoe", great trip especially BA. No-one has mentioned going up the River Plate to Rosario, that was interesting, seeing Gouchos sitting by a campfire at night as the ship slowly slid up the river close by them. Anyone else do that. The eye candy in Rosario was also worth seeing, dark skinned, bare feet on dusty streets. My jaw was hanging open.

What exactly was an A boat ? Most of the boats on the BA run were refrigerated or carried horses, so what made an A boat an A boat?

Rosario
Hi Duke,
I did a few trips to BA (61-62) and then up river to Viza Contstitution and Rosario. I remember Rosario quite well, having to open the bottom drawer of my bunk (which stopped the door opening fully) to stop ladies of the night getting in uninvited. Also remember a ship in Viza had lost her prop, for'd tanks were flooded to take her down by the head, ships crew were attempting to fit a spare prop!! BA was always a great trip, had some brilliant times up the main drag (called the 25th May??) (Veinte Cinqo de Mayo..courtesy of paedrig). Also had some scary times, been there when the Army and Navy were at each others throats.
Cheers Russ K

I remember the Avenida de Cinco de Mayo and the Corrientes (main street)
Also surprised standing there one night and the parked cars started moving up and down the street on their own, then someone told me that it was against the law to use a hand brake so that cars could push back and forth to get out or into a parking spot.
There's a Robert Duval movie out on DVD called Assassination Tango, set in BA and quite a few aerial shots of the main streets, takes you back.
