I think the world has changed Everywhere for the worse., If you ar British in BA you are not welcome and you will know it. Everywhere else, the Immigrants, all the dregs of the world have turned Britain into a midden.
Our Nation will never be the same again. A handful of Politicians have destroyed our nation far more than millions of German Troops, submarines and luftwaffe ever could have.
    I despair ... again
    Brian.

    Loved those beefies.
Had never tasted anything like them, before or since.

    Blimey,

What memories have been brought back. I was there on Eagle Oil Tankers, the first time I was only 16 years of age,1957. Nowadays lads have not even left school at that age. BA as it was then I'm sure will be remembered for ever by those of us who have had the good fortune of being there. You can forget the Vigis and the Marineros just remember the Cinquo De Mayo and Tanker Joes in Doc Sud. Happy Times.

    John

My mouth is watering at the thought of those steaks we had in BA, straight off the grill, dont think i have ever had one so good. Mind you this was the end of the 50s and the only steak i had at home was stewing steak. so beefy lomo was something to behold for a 17 year old, KT

I was an apprentice on the Dese in 1960's. BA was great then. I remember that just outside the gates of darsena no 4 was a smallplace where you could get a steak sandwich for about 1/3d It was the size of a plate and about half an inch thick! I also remember a few beers in Ma whiteheads bar and watching Boca Juniors playing football.

The title of this post reminds me of my first ship and stepping on board a seaman said to me what are you, and I said an apprentice, his first words were Gawds struth we need ABs not BAs. I didn't tell him I didn't have a BA, and was only sometime later I discovered what he meant. Took 4 years to become an AB to comply with the manning scale. Don't know about the BAs as have seen some right dunderheads who say they have. Cheers JS

Nowadays John I believe they leave training school with EDH tickets, which must include a lifeboat ticket, still no ships for them to man. I think I am right in saying in the 50/60s it was deck boy 9 moths sea time to Jos, another 9 for Sos, cannot remember, but I think another 9 months before you could take EDH ticket, then a corse ashore for lifeboat and Ab ticket. How times change kt
