    Post Pampas

The Royal Mail P boat Pampas struck a mine in the English channel late 50's/60's widely reported in the
media as she was supposed in imminent danger of sinking - my brother John Hughes was Purser on the ship and I wonder if any colleagues remember the incident. Unfortunately my brother John Crossed the Bar last year.

For my part my first trip was on the Highland Monarch as a 3rd R/O - great ship. Captain Whittle in command.

    Default neville

Just remembered Tom, on the way home on the Tacoma in the english channel we got hit by a tanker in fog , I was in my bunk about 6 in the am and the ship listed port I jumped out too the port hole and a tanker was across our bow , must have been a slow hit as we only had some minor damage too the bow above the water line, before that I remember being sent aft too bang pots and pans together in the fog, Ha, Ha, no bloody radar in those days
