    Default The Battle of Britain

The Battle of Britain has been described as the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces. The British officially recognise the battle's duration as being from 10 July until 31 October 1940, which overlaps the period of large-scale night attacks known as the Blitz, that lasted from 7 September 1940 to 11 May 1941. British casualties: 1,542 killed, 422 wounded, 1,744 aircraft destroyed.

VIA: Royal British Legion - Paris France.

Default Re: The Battle of Britain

Goerings first target was miltary targets such as airfields to knock out what limited opposition there was to his bombers. When this failed his target was then the civilian populance , and is said Hitler was hoping this would cause Britain to sue for a cease fire. This did no happen . If the German offensive had continued on the airfields, the end of the war might have had a different outcome.JS
