Re: Fred Jones
Sincerely hope that you may get some good reply this time Lisa.
Are you going to apply for his Seamans Pouch at all.
As said it will only have basic info, but could prove useful ??
Cheers
One more thing Lisa, is that as he joined at a later age than was normal for many, he may not have had a very long Service, and possibly there was no CRS10, OR CR10 .
The possibility therefore of there only being the Seamans Pouch.
If that was the case then his Sea Service he had would all be in that Pouch. The only was now i feel is the get that Pouch. ????

Re: Fred Jones
I have sent an email to NA in Kew requesting a copy of the pouch. Also emailed Southampton for his CRS10 cards.
Yes he joined late. He married my Gran in 1940 and she died in 1947. Leaving behind 3 children under 4 years. 1 was my late mum. When his wife died her family raised the children and he joined the Merchant Navy. Don’t think he had any contact with the children after he joined. I heard he got hit by a taxi in 1967ish in London and died. I was hoping he was still in service at the time so I could get a date of death

Re: Fred Jones
Thanks Lisa , sad that he died in that manner. Well as said i do hope you may have some luck , but now feel as what you have told , that he possibly did not have too much Service ? Mind you thats just a Theory!
Will see what his Seamans Pouch brings forth.
Please keep us updated when you get it!
Would like to see if there is any way forward or if as said its his only Record!
Cheers

Re: Fred Jones
Lisa
The Pouch should be available from Kew, as said there is the entry there, so they must have it.
I think its the CRS10 that they cannot find or come up with.
Anyway i am sure you will get his Pouch, so yes please keep me updated . If you dont mind when you get that , can you possibly upload as much info on it as possible, taking Pictures of the various Pages would be great, that way i can have a look and see if there could be any leads that may help get futher on this !
Cheers

Re: Fred Jones
Yes I definitely will be in touch with any info I find. That is the correct birth, his mother was Annie Ridgway and his father was John Jones, but don’t think it is the correct death certificate as that would mean he was born c1909 with the age being 57.
I was in touch with his sisters son a little while ago. He couldn’t tell me much but did say he remembers an Uncle Fred who was in the Merchant Navy and he used to take him presents home from all the places he had been.

Re: Fred Jones
There is a Frederick David Jones born 05/02/1914 died in Newham 1970. It’s the correct DOB but my Grandfather didn’t have a middle name. Although he was Christened Fred he sometimes used Frederick on some documents

Re: Fred Jones
Just seen it. This would mean he was born in 1922. There was so many Fred/Frederick jones around that time. I think if he died in London it was maybe registered in London. I have asked NA at Kew for his seaman pouch and if he died in service his death date. Hopefully they will find something. I think his sister and her husband would have registered his death. They were Ethel and John Seeds. Shame I can’t view every certificate before purchasing
