Information on Father.

Hello, my name is Penny. I am trying to find out some information about my dad Edward Stanley Ingleton known as Ted by his friends. I think he was in the merchant Navy when the war started. I know he was on the ship HMS Eastway as a petty officer and the ship’s plumber at some time in the war he was at D Day in the Eastway. I would like to know how to find out more about his Merchant Navy and war service but don’t know where to start. He was born 15/07/1920 and died in Feb 2001. He never really talked about the war (apart from singing his navy songs to us as kids). He had a bad knee which was caused by shrapnel but I don’t know how.
Any help on where to start would be greatly appreciated appreciated.
P.S I know he was on the Eastway as I happened to google his name years ago and a publication by Sidney Toone came up about the war and dads name and phot was in it.

At this stage on what you have posted sounds like he was in the Royal Navy , possibly at some time Merchant as well? I will have to look this up, and see if he was in fact in the Merchant Navy??
The Ship in Question was a Royal Navy Dock Landing Ship , and his Rank was that of a RN Officer.

Do you perhaps have any other info ,possibly like any Number beginning with the Letters either J or K ??
Where was he Born??

Thanks so much for the reply. I don’t know anything else about when he went into the Navy but I always thought it was before the war started for some reason I just thought it was the merchant navy but it could well be the Royal Navy so will investigate that next. I’ll have a good read of the files. Thanks once again.

Well on quite extensive search , i have not found any connection of him in the Merchant Navy . However this is not a certainty, so there may be other Areas of research that i do not know of??

But my guess is he was only in the RN.

Applying for his RN Service Record is now your best bet.
