SS city of Guildford Ellerman Lines Ltd

Hi, I’m looking to find details of my Grandfather’s time on the Ellerman Line ltd SS City of Guildford. I think he served possibly sometime between 1935 and 1941. I understand from family that he left a couple of years before in was sunk by a UBoat off Africa in 1943.
I’ve been through TNA and the Canadian held crew lists and can’t get anything. Sadly dad has dementia and can’t remember when grandad joined the ship.

I have gone through my normal search channels , and not come up with a Record for him.(His Mothers Maiden name was Bullock ) Correct!
There may be some Record of his Service at the Southampton Archives though, as they do hold many of the Original Files.
If you Email them and just ask if there is such a name on their records , then you can follow up if you want.
Hope you may get some luck.
I will look father into it when i get some time , and if i come up with anything will post here.

I can see that the Ellerman Line Ltd collection is lodged at Liverpool Maritime Museum so I’ve dropped a mail to them and I’ll try Southampton as well.

Here is a Link for the NA, it covers all the Years for that Ship, so there are individual Pages. The Crew Lists will be amongst them, but of course as usual, will cost to look at them, or indeed order any! And there is no saying that it will have what you want but thats Family searching for you ! LOL
