Looking for info Blue funnel Auckland 1959

Hi there just joined and looking for some details on my Dad. He was born 1944 and said he joined the merchant navy blue funnel when he was 15 so approx 1959. He was a deck hand in Auckland New Zealand. I have a photo in but no sure how to attach it yet. and would be greatful if anyone has more info! Thank youIMG_6924.jpg

#1. Must have been 16 the next day then . In 1959 16 was the mininum age for deep sea Articles in the MN. I can’t see Blue Funnel one of the most respected British companys breaking the law. Unless of course he was signed on for a coasting trip. ? Regards best of luck in your search. JS

I may be wrong but I don't think Blue funnel traded to NZ, can't remember any of their ships on the coast. It's been along time for the old memory.

This is further information I have been emailed from his brother

SRW was sent to Outward Bound Course in Wales around 1957. In early 1958 still at 14, he was accepted as a Deck Hand on Blue Funnel the Shipping Company in Liverpool- After a few trips he moved to NZ Shipping and did a couple of voyages to/from NZ In about 1961 he jumped ship in NZ ( local girl!!) and when he got back to U.K. he joined with me in BJS a Building enterprise. From here on covered in my book

Hello Natalie
This is a link to his Seamans Pouch which will hold basic info.
You will also need his CRS10 Document File, as that will hold all his Seatime Searvice, Ships etc.
I will look for that link soon and post here!

CRS10 Records are the full records of Merchant Seamans Services held at the National Archives in Kew.
These Records will as i have said will hold a lot more info than the Seamans Pouches!
It will be to any ones benefit to apply for them in place of just the Seamans Pouches!

Although i cannot do it for you i can however give advice. You will need to initially Join the National Archives but that part is Free! After that there is of course costs involved! Good Luck
