Question Info on John Muir McQueen

My father John Muir McQueen was born in Glasgow DOB 11/06/1922 DOD 17/02/95x. My father was in the Merchant Navy probably in the 1940’s. I am trying to find out any information about his service. Sorry I don’t have any more information.

Think I sailed with a John Muir but no McQueen on the end. Also from Glasgow. If you don’t have the name of any of his ships or any of his paperwork I would imagine it will be a hard one to follow up. Best of luck. What was his work have you any idea . JS…

    Hello Jean
At this point i only find one J M McQueen in the NA Register, but not your one , as Born in Hull.
But i will keep looking, there are two possibilities, either his Record was destroyed for some reason, or he may have still been at Sea after 1972 in which case no records were kept as i know of!

    Cheers

There also may be the possibility that he has a CRS10 File on record still, in which case it would be found here i hope .

Thanks for your help. I’m afraid when he died all information was lost. I know for sure that he was definitely out of the navy by 1949 as he had joined the police force by then.

What would appear to be the place to look then would be the police if they retain records of their members and their history. Bet they could tell you all about Robert Peel , and being police it will be their nature to keep records . Cheers JS

    Hi Jean
Thanks for the reply, and i am just asking , if perhaps he was in the Royal Navy??

But as said if he was in the Merchant Navy and he still has some Records held, then the Link i gave should cover him as well.
Best to go the the Archives in Person if possible, but online if you do take that path, make sure that you give as much info as you can on him.
Hope you may be able to get futher on this
    Cheers

Have had a look too Jean. Went on to Find My Past and my records there show I had opened his link previously! So someone before must have asked about him.

There are 15 trees on Ancestry, most are private and a few listing one record only which I presume is his marriage date as the others show that too along with his parents names and that of his wife. 'Tis very unusal not to find something. Checked for any trees pertaining to his parents but they stop with John. Did he have any siblings? Could try that route as there may be a tree for them with further info.
