    Default SS Mopan

    Hi all.
I am on here on behalf of a good family friend and hoping to find some new information regarding his father John Rushbridge from Garston Liverpool. His son also named John (my family friend ) is 80 and not to clued up on using computers and internet. His father John senior was on the SS Mopan when sunk and he was captured and taken to Milag POW camp. I have a diary entry from John (senior) regarding the last few days at the Milag camp before liberation which I will attach in case anyone else finds it interesting and insightful.
I am really hoping to come across any photographs, crew lists, service number and any other bits of information that I can give to John ( Junior .. even at 80) as his dad like so many never really spoke about his time during the war.

    Appreciated.

The image I,m trying to upload is as a thumbnail and so poor quality, is there a way to upload the image without being thumbnail ?

Have added this for Kilcullen. Cheers

    Hi
Firstly the attachment does not seem to Open for me ? Anyone Else!
Second, can we have the Place and DOB of the person you are researching please! This will assist us!
The Ship Mopan, has Crew Lists for various Years at the University Archives of Canada, so this may assist if the Years are ones he was on her!
Crew List Index Search Results (mun.ca)

Also available Crew lists at the following listed. Just Click on each Year if it is applicable .
    Crew List Index Project

eg; First Link brings this up
Official Numbers: 160187 Beaverburn, 161068 Sloyne, 161078 Athelstane, 161081 Athelduke,... | The National Archives

PS Did manage to Open attached File , but cannot read it! Cheers

    Thanks for your reply.
I don’t know any previous dates when he was on the Mopan except for the Ships final day when she was sunk, 5th November 1940.
Is that his service number you have put up ?

You will have to excuse any mistakes I make using this site until I get to know my way around it.
    Thanks

    Helo Kilcullen
No i have not included and Service Number, the Numbers shown anywhere are Ship Official Numbers

So you dont have his DOB? Makes it a bit harder to search ! But as you mention 1940, he then must have had a CRS10 File , i will look and see if i can find one ! Hugh our other researcher will see this in time and i am sure will be able to assist futher!
    Cheers

Think this will be the Link for his CRS10 File .
Will have to apply for it in Person or online , at a cost of course!
    Cheers

    Hello and welcome Kilcullen,

John Percy George Rusbridge, Dis.A, R121016 b. 6.3.1916 - Aldershot. Prisoner of War No. 89669. Able Seaman ss MOPAN.
According to his card he was initially thought to have been lost. I will see if I have any more on him.

His Seaman's Pouch is here: BT 372/44/24
His medal file is here: BT 395/1/84983 He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star and War Medal.

As he was a pow from 1940 onwards, there will probably be very little if anything in his CRS 10 unless of course he continued to serve after 1945.

    Regards
    Hugh
