    As the great singer said

"Well I woke up Sunday morning with no way to hold my head that did not hurt, and the beer I had for breakfast was not bad so I had one more for desert....................

Ladders Victoria, wonderful things but you do not see so many now, the panty hose is far better quality than that of years ago.

But as to climbing them, wonderful stuff, I get a great view over the area when I climb mine.

Dave (Francis). I returned to sea as an AB, just as easy could have gone as a Steward, Cook or Wiper by first volunteering on one of the still operating historic vessels here in the States. Mine happened to be the ss “Jeremiah O,Brien” in San Francisco. No need to do anything more than become a crew member and then have all kinds of help to obtain a Seaman’s Card from the local port Coast Guard office. Then have to get a TWIX clearance. To actually go foreign or deep sea, as we used to say, you attend the Union and become a member. Very few US ships left but you could stand a chance of catching a berth on a Military Sealift Command vessel which are mostly civilian manned. Have to take courses to suit the vessel the Union intends to appoint you to. Trips are normally a minimum of 4 months but the Union likes you to stay aboard for 6 months as it saves on the cost of International flights if the ship is making crew changes overseas, which is often the case. Since i incurred about $2000 in travel and course expenses in earning my AB Navigation Bridge qualification at 70 or so, I decided to earn it back and signed up with SUP (Sailors Union of the Pacific). Had to do the Military vessels first before moving up to work Matson and APL ships. Pay was very good and one earned 15 paid days off for each 30 days aboard ship. COULDN’T BELIEVE THAT ONE !!! The food was way beyond anything i had ever had on a ship before, although CPS and Harrisons were good feeders in their day. I had intended to stay until i was 80 but an arm injury in Singapore cut me short at 78. Hey, I have a new roof and all double pane glass windows as well as paved front driveway and a paved footpath for my house. The Wife was chuffed as heck having the house to herself and it helped us get past our 50th Anniversary in good shape - she still has my letters ! Where this a will there is a way, or, a rich dead Aunt ! Cheers Keith Adams or aka “Snowy”
