#23.. Tom you have to remember to take your face mask off when looking in the mirror, otherwise it doesn’t work. They have just brought out compulsory wearing of such for the next 5 days here in WA. I look upon it as a boon,as can now not shave for 5 days and will save on razor blades. Cheers JS

#34,, Des when you get stiff enough they will probably use you as a figurehead on the bowsprit. Or on today’s ships the Breasthook, so you will still feel at home. Cheers JS

John #8, you are correct the majority of crew in hospitality are non English, though the English do figure in a number of other areas of the ships.
But as to age, we had a head waiter, Italian, who was well into his 70's, but that was before the lock down came.
But there ae many who will not return after so long so maybe he may get a berth.
Well some one has to do the dhobi for the bloods.

Well john i was thinking about your offer of the pickle jar but i did think of .....putting all the masters on the bridge at the same time in full company uniform ....locking the doors and telling them to set course for vizagapatan ....with no charts ......then listening to the cacaphony .....while we all sat in the masters accom listening down the old brass mouthpiece from bridge to masters accom ....ps from smiths dock ......oh happy days cappy

Thought Viagara was spelt different than your spelling .Do you still have Boots the chemist , may not need the charts .Some May sneer at the old cockroach in the pickle jar, but he keeps good company , you’ve heard of the grand order of the thistle, well the grand order of the pickle is miles ahead of the thistle. Has to be a thistle has many sharp points. Did they finally get those yuppies flats built in Smith’s drydock knew you had your name down for a long time. Cheers JS

Whats the betting Toms going to bring in scallions into the issue, and we”ll finish up with a market Garden in Lowestoft. I’m going to change my option to being a silverfish behind the breadboard in the pantry. I was going to mention the capstan tins as a good abode for animal life , but gives Marion bad heads thinking of it, and fouros likely to get the port health in . Every way you turn you get the protestors . Rule Brittania all gone now. Cheers JS,,

Hi Dave,
I did a few STCW courses at MPT in Fort Lauderdale in 2012, at the school there were loads of young guys and girls doing courses hoping to get a job on one of the many big motor yachts or cruise ships that are in that area. Some of them were already working on cruise ships. Might be worth your while googling employment agencies in the Fort Lauderdale Miami area.
I left the Merchant Navy in the early 90s and moved in to the drilling industry and eventually worked on drill ships before retiring a few years ago. There are loads of US drilling companies with rigs in the Gulf of Mexico the crews are normally all US citizens. If you are interested in a stewards job on a rig look at the web sites of companies like Transocean, Seadrill, ENSCO, Noble, Diamond and Rowan, although covid and the low oil price has affected them as well, so I doubt if any are looking for staff at the moment
