Family research - a long shot
Hi all,
This is a very long shot but I am doing some research on behalf of a friend trying to find some information about his dad. Unfortunately we know very little.
All we have is the name John Kavanagh and at the time of my friend's birth in 1962 his father was listed as a Steward in the Merchant Navy. My friend thinks - but isn't sure - that his father may have been Irish although my friend was born in London in November '62.
I don't know his year of birth, years of service or any ships that he served on so I realise this is a needle in a haystack! There is also always the possibility that he wasn't even in the Merchant Navy at all! But seeing as this is the only clue we have to go on I thought I would reach out to see if anyone has any information they would be willing to share.
Any replies welcome.
Emily

Re: Family research - a long shot
Long shot indeed.
But we will look at this.
I have one so far that was from Offalty Ireland Born 1943 ?? Which would possibly tie in with his DOB making him about 19 when the Friend was Born in 1962 ??
Cheers

Hi Marian, I really appreciate you taking the time to look into this thank you!
Unfortunately we really know nothing further. He never knew his father and his mother has now passed away. Thank you for the suggestion re. DNA testing, I think you're right about that being the only way forward at this stage.
Thanks again.

Hi Emily
Well i do hope that you will in the end get to find who you are after, its a long hard ask but with DNA Testing like is suggested, think yes thats the only road open at this time.
Unless by chance you come on some other info! I know its private and respect all, but is it possible to say your Friend Forst name at all? Born in London where abouts?? Just that it may help >>
Cheers and Good Luck
