I am thinking that possibly the Records for the two may be help in Southampton Archives, if not on the Irish Mariners Listing?

Best to Email Southampton and ask the question regarding those Numbers! They may be able to shed more light ??? If you read through the Link and the Sub Cats you will also see that many Records of that time were destroyed or lost so ???????

    Central index system Irish Mariners

Very unusual to me that no names are recorded on the Certificates ????

    Wonder why that was.
    Cheers

Just re downloading this as i have made it Grey Type, may assist in reading the Ships ?? But i cannot make out any!

If anyone is going through Irish records and the following two names catches their eye would appreciate knowing. They represent two different ships I was on and both are for different reasons , they are a much later date however so may not be noticeable they go back to the late 50s and 60s and the names are Christmas a good Irish name I am told , and Lundy also supposedly well known. But for different reasons. JS

Very good find by your Friend and good info, however i would still like to know the Ships that are listed on the Card for him?? Cannot read them at all??
    Cheers

I really am not sure but this is attached to his Record, in FMP Irish Mariners so possibly a copy handed to him on Voyage start on the Ship EBLANA ?? No mention of his name though?? So just for interest really.

Apart from the Eblana at the top, I read the other two ship entries as "Mayflower of Liverpool" and "Mayflower". Sadly, there are many ships with the registered name Mayflower or variants thereof.

Hi Marian, great work. Edward Donovan RS2 328392 is indeed a match based on the RS2 number and the Eblana but also from details on medal card index BT 351/1/37127 which stated his address as 22 Peter Street Cork (same address as 1911 Census of Ireland). His wife is Hannah Donovan (nee Foley).

His son Daniel Donovan (RS2 486295) is more problematic. As mentioned there are at least 3 people of the same name born between 1875 and 1879 from Cork and sometimes even serving on the same ships. The one ship we know he served on from his certificate is the 'Lowland' in 1921. A ship with a similar name 'Lowlands' had been decommissioned by then. I have a medal card reference BT 351/1/37121 which gives a discharge number 95654. It also suggested he served in the Royal Navy Reserve (RNR). There is a RNR record for him, number ST 496, which showed he served in 1915-6 before being invalided out . (ref BT 377/7/98624). Parents given as Edward and Hannah. The address is different from 1911 Census but I am satisfied it is him based on parents names.

One way I am now looking at to identify him and the various Daniel Donovans on crew lists is to look at their signatures.

Sincere thanks to everyone on he site and at Irish Mariners for your help in piecing the puzzle together.
