Arrow MV Warwick Castle late 50s / early 60s Colour Pictures

    Hi All,

I found many colour pictures from the Warwick Castle from the early 1960s. They were taken by my father Denis Nolan (1930-2020), he was the ship's 2nd enginner.

If anybody has a moment can you have a look at them and let me know if you can add detail on people, places names etc? There are about 100 of them.

    They are over on Flickr

It would be great to get the stories behind these pics.. Any help would be much appreciated.

As the Trips were more or less the same a little differences on Forward and Return Journeys , here is one Trip on the Warwick which was really good.

    London KG5
    Gibraltar
    Marseilles
    Genoa
    Port Said
    Aden
    Mombassa
    Tanga
    Zanzibar
    Dar-es-Salaam
    Beira
    Lorenzo Marques
    Durban
    East London
    Port Elizabeth
    Cape Town
    Ascension
    Las Palmas
    London
    Antwerp
    London

Very interesting trip and People i met along the way.
    Cheers

Your Father was listed as Senior 2nd Engineer on the Warwick, on her final Voyage in 1962
Left London KG5 on 30th March for East Africa, round trip through the Suez down East African Coast, then along to Cape Town and then back up the West Coast and the back to London KG5 Dock.

The Pic of him in the White Shorts and top looks like Zanzibar !

IMG-2302 and IMG-2339 Sure looks like Las Palmas Standing in his Uniform and then in his Civies with another Chap.
Think the other Pic with the Five in White ,the middle Young Man is Junior Engineer J F Black

The Dancing on Board 4 Pics in all are Madeira or Ascension Islands.

Those in the Desert are almost sure (Cannot be any other) Sahara Desert , must have managed to get a good Days leave in Port Said and then taken to the Spot where he is standing! Very desolate , this i know first hand having been there myself for quite some time when in the Legion.

The City with the Two sets of Tusks in the Street is Mombassa!

IMG-2377 and next two Pics are i am sure the famous Crossing the Line Ceremony which was held on most all UCL Ships with King Neptune and all the Antics! It was a really good days fun for all.

    IMG-2000 is of course the
IMG-2611 Is what looks like the older part of Table Bay Docks , hard to tell but could be a shot of it laying below Lions Head ??

IMG-2352 Sitting on the Nie Blankes Bench at Sea Point LOL

IMG-2614 The old Pier below Signal Hill Cape Town

IMG-2648 The Himalaya taken from the Warwick i am sure as i have seen this one before, but where was it i cannot recall!

I was never on it but I enjoyed going through those shots of all the different ports and activities. Lot of MN History there.

What an amazing collection of photos.
They should be kept so that future generations maybe able to gain some understanding of life then.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
