    #1... The magnetic compass you obviously know what it is used for and it’s beginning with the lodestone , your great Uncle and all before him and many after his time were totally dependent on its direction finding capabilitys . The number of people who have failed their master mariners examination because of lack of knowledge of how to just correct it , must be in the many hundreds . Magnetism and compass correcting was a failing subject , it was an extremely. Important tool to most mariners on this site. It would be an excellent memorial to your Uncle who would feel at home with such. I can’t think of any marine instrument with an older history. The place to look may be nautical museums who may have models of such for the souvenir hunter. JS
