    Default Merchant navy pension

    Hi hoping someone can help
    My G grandfather was a merchant seaman in the early 1900’s where would I found out any pension info on him

    You may strike lucky but doubt it.
    Very few companies had such a scheme and the national one for seamen was done over by the Seamans union way back in the 60's.

    Depends when he started and what company he worked for. My father started at sea in 1927 with blue star line as a cadet and paid into the merchant navy officers and airline pilots pension fund as well as being enrolled in the company pension scheme.

    Hi Amanda.
    There is a pension place in Newcastle UK where we reprobates from the colonies are told to try for a UK pension, maybe they could lead you to the path of the MN pension but don't hold your breath.

    He started in 1891 and left after his ship was taken over by the navy in the war in1917 I think
