Welcome
Hi, I'm trying to help my wife trace her father's family history. We believe he entered the Seamans mission, orphanage section, when he was around 6 yrs of age in about 1913/1914 after his fasther passed away? He became a Merchant seaman from 1921 ish to 1945 ish. Somewhere, I have a card with details of his service but at the moment, I am unable to find it. However, if it's any use, his passport number was 3725? He took a Merchant seaman's gunners course on the 27th July 1939. He later became the secretary of the Merchant Seaman's union, based in Tilbury Essex. I think he sailed on the following ships: Kildonan Castle Empress of Scotland R.M.S. Ascania(II) HMS. Aurania (F28) His Name was: Albert Edward Turner Any help you can give us will be much appreciated. Kind regards David Doubleday

Hi, Thank you to the people who have replied. I'm finding it tricky to work out how to reply to threads or answer messages at the moment! Or for that matter how to get into the right place to read them!! I'm also a bit short of time to get onto the site as I'm caring for my wife at the moment who had her ankle reconstructed 2 months ago and is unable to put any weight on her foot. I'm sure I'll figure out how to navigate around the site soon and I'll look up Alberts date of birth. I wish I new where I put his book with all his details of service! Cheers David now how do I post this???
