##such an interesting seagoing career matt .....how proud of that record you must be ......up the hawsepipe ......often the best old men.....seen the other side as well .....the array of ships is admirable .....but sadly as others have testified ...less and less .....i would be extremely suprised if non aboard our august crowd had sailed with him......they are certainly ships of an era many on here sailed in .....hope you find some who remember him ...best wishes and regards cappy from shields

Thumbs up Re: Discharge book converted to excel

Matt as Cappy said, you must be proud of your Father. That is one of the most impressive sea going careers I have ever had the privilege to see. From J.O.S. to master and a career spanning some 46 years 'I doff me hat to you Sir' Your Dad never knew when to swallow the anchor he even ended up on the Thames sludge boats as Mate. Those jobs were hard to get and were normally for men coming to the end of their careers.

    Many thanks John.
    Yes he came full circle.
He retired in Jan 98 and and died in the April.
Never got to enjoy his retirement plans he and my mum had.

Matt, just out of interest do you have photographs of your dads ships to add to your research ? If not you will find some on this site and there are also some on the Ship spotting site. There are some veritable Sherlock Holmes's on this site if you need help or get stuck.

Hello John, yes I've got photos of most of them.
Is there a site you know of that i could find the voyages of the ships?
Also keen to find out where they were built and including the engines which in some cases seem not to built on the shipyard.
The National Archives have some stuff but charge an arm and a leg.

    Cheers

    Matt

A great lineup of your Fathers Ships there Matt and as siad by all you must be so proud and so you should be!
You have done a good job there listing all the details. Thank You.
You can apply for the Voyage Record Cards from the Guildhall Library in London
there is still a special section there that keeps all the records ,well most all anyway.
    Good Luck
