Re: Hampton Lodge Merchant Navy Ship 1942
VIA: CWGC.
DELY IBRAHIM WAR CEMETERY
Allied troops made a series of landings on the Algerian coast in early November 1942. From there, they swept east into Tunisia, where the North African campaign came to an end in May 1943 with the surrender of the Axis forces. Dely Ibrahim War Cemetery contains 494 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War and 11 war graves of other nationalities. There are also 25 non-war graves, mostly of merchant seamen whose deaths were not due to war service. https://www.cwgc.org/find-a-cemetery...-war-cemetery/
From his CWGC certificate he is shown at the time to be a driver.

Re: Hampton Lodge Merchant Navy Ship 1942
Keith, Susan, I was at the Torch Op on 8th Nov '42 at place called Sidi Ferrucie just west of Algiers where we landed British First Army by our landing craft. Most soldiers were RASC (Royal Army Service Corps). They went on to secure Algiers where we unloaded the rest of our cargo before heading back to Gibraltar, independant, then with convoy MKS1Y arrived L'Pool Nov 30th.
Keith,The wreck map you posted is just West of that Sidi place , now renamed. West bound Med convoys restarted after Torch, from Philipville and was a very active hot spot even from Suez until lower Italy was taken. I was on a number of those from Suez to Gib in late 1943.
Susan, hope this may help your search, it was a sad time and friend of mine lost his father from the The !st Army in '43. Take Care, Cheers, Eric

Re: Hampton Lodge Merchant Navy Ship 1942
The family should have been informed of the exact death details, I am aware it was a long time ago.
As you mention you have all details apart from actual cause.
Possibly you may or another family member have the death certificate which should tell more.
Otherwise pos the MOD is the next step forward.
