Re: Help Needed - My Grandfather
Thanks Everyone, certainly the plot thickens Lol
I think the one from forces reunited was my attempt a few years ago to trace his service history.
I will have a look at the others, i am visiting UK in March so may take a trip to Kew and see what that comes up with. I also found some references to items at the Manchester Records Office so i will pop there too.
I am beginning to think
A: he was an illegitimate child
B: he told a tall tale about navy service Lol
Thanks again, will have a look at the suggestions and see if i can find anything further.

Re: Help Needed - My Grandfather
#42, A&B Distinct possibility...especially if Joseph was the only one of his siblings to be born in the work house, any idea where the rest were born? have you tried the Royal Navy route?
#43, Louisa, Would really need the exact address to confirm if any of those below are him. Nothing showing for Joseph Moloughney
Joseph Cain 1917 Liverpool C.B. Lancashire England
Joseph Cain 1917 Bolton C.B. Lancashire England
Joseph Cain 1919 Bolton C.B. Lancashire England
Joseph Cain 1920 Barrow-In-Furness C.B. Lancashire England
Joseph Cain 1920 Wigan C.B. Lancashire England
Joseph (P) Cain 1917 Bootle C.B. Lancashire England
Selected the one born in 1919:*NOT the 24th Sept!
Cain Household (4 People)
43 Olaf Street , Bolton C.B., Lancashire, England
FIRST NAME(S) LAST NAME(S) DOB OCCUPATION
Joseph Cain 02 Oct 1919 Plumber's Assistant

Hi Marian.
The address they lived at was 4 Wiles Street, Gorton Manchester, with the Moloughney and Cain Family.
I have found a Medal Listing for a Joseph Bonar, but I don't understand it and it does not really give any details as I do not know what the columns mean or the abbreviations. Its from BT 395 National Archives

Aw, this is not him, i managed to find this Joseph due to the Thornley Reference, he perished on SS River Lugar in 1941 when she was torpedoed by U Boat and sunk 300 miles off the Canary Islands.
