Request for help - Richard Eric Thorn
Hello all
I'm really hoping someone can help with anything at all about my Grandfather, it would mean the world to my mum if I can find out anything as (like most) he really didn't talk about his experiences so we only have very limited information.
His name was Richard Eric Thorn, born on the 28/12/1923 and lived in Hampton Lucy, Warwickshire
The limited things we know are
1. He was torpedoed in the Baring Sea as part of the Russia relief convoys
2. He was torpedoed in Mediterranean on the Malta convoys
3. He was taken POW by Italians and held in Algeria
4. Was in New York at some point when he was 18 (we have a photo of him in uniform which I will try to add later - the ships name was taped over)
I really don't know where to start and my mum was an only child with no other family left to ask so I'd really appreciate any assistance in where to look for further information
Thanks in advance, Helen

Birth date differs:
Richard Eric THORN (b. 28 Dec 1926, d. 08 Jun 1990)
Could he have told a fib to go to sea ?
Think this would be him ?

Hi Keith
Yes he survived (luckily for me long enough for me to know him), he died on 8th June 1990 (heart) - I've also just amended his date of birth which should be 1926 not 1923
Thanks Helen

Sadly not but would love to

Yes that's him - Ethel Maud Jones was my Grandmother (she was married previously with other children). My mum was their only child

Yes that's him - my typo with his birth date (should be 1926)

Re: Request for help - Richard Eric Thorn
Thanks..
Would you hold any of his MN documentation, in particular his discharge book / virtually his MN passport ?
This would give a lot of information and include his reference number.
Regards,
Keith.

Hi Keith
Sadly not which is why I've hit a brick wall as I just have nothing apart from his name to do any searches on......it feels as though if we just had one bit of info then more would be easier to find
Thanks Helen
