Hello Bill, as a new chum I just found your message re chief cook on the Port Nelson.i sailed in her as "tiger' to Capt Stannard July to Nov 1962.It was the trip that marked the skippers last voyage before retirement. To be perfectly honest I dont recall your relo except to say it was a happy ship.We had to go into Fji for repairs and I may have had a drink with him at Costello's pub.

All the best Neil "Mort " Morton.

Hello Terry my name is Neil Morton I was 'tiger' to Capt Pedric in the New Plymouth Jan to May 1962 If memory serves me right it was her third voyage, a beautiful ship built I believe in 1960. The cook/butcher was Bernie Myers, he and I became really good friends I sponsered him to come to live with me here in Melbourne. He married a lass from Perth and lives there now.We meet up every couple of years.Do you recall him or me?

    Cool Port Sydney 1960

Hi Mick A I "signed on" on my 16th birthday, (4/8/44),as deck boy, I dont remember any one on the Sydney, apart that the AB's were all mad Stornawegins, espesially the bos'un who was about six foot eight, he towered above me, and I was 6'5", round trip to OZ back home late Nov, worked by on her then did home trade, paying off on Dec23. I don't even remember my fellow cell mates, Ops cabin mates, there were 4deck boys all told.still it is 50 years ago!!. Iremember that thier was an incident with an engine room boy, who was caught stealing by one of the ABs the kid was put asore in Melbourne never to be seen again, any clues!. I have only just found this web site and i am enjoying finding out about the ships I sailed on.
    best wishes Darrell Kellett. R731651

I did my last trip to sea on the Port Melbourne , jan - feb 1971. Good times...
    Here's to tall ships
    Here's to small ships
Here's to all the ships on the sea
But the best ships are friendships ..
Here's to you and me .
