    Smile Port Auckland 1960-1

Anyone here from the Port Auckland trip 1960-1? Out via Suez to OZ and NZ, home via Panama.
Super ship, super shipmates, great memories! I've lived in NZ for 47 years.
    Cheers, Mike Lowe, Junior Engineer.

    Default Junior Engineers!

Hi Mort, I live in Howick, just down the road from Glen Innes - drove through there today.
One of the ships I was coasting on in 1960, I think the Port New Plymouth, broke a crankshaft approaching OZ. They were able to get her going again on 3 cylinders, carried on to OZ, loaded her with wool, and sent her off home. Does anyone know anything about that? If it was the N.P. I'm darned glad I was not on board that trip!

    Hi Mike,

I just discovered this site about an hour ago.

I joined the Port Auckland on HT articles in Antwerp on 19 Jan 62 and then went on to Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Hamburg, London and Cardiff. Signed off there on 8 Feb before signing FG articles on 16 Feb then sailing deep sea.

If my memory is any good, the period between change of Articles was referred to as "working by" so that the ship you are after would have changed articles in London so Port Auckland doesn't seem to be a goer

    Default Port Auckland.

Hi Mortnj and Mike. I did a run job on the Port Auckland in April 65, and as I remember, she was a lovely ship, I wanted to sail deep sea on her, but I was transfered to the Port Pirie. I see that you lived in Glenn Innes, and Mike lives in Howick. I used to live in Belmoral, and then in Belmont ( North Shore ) I still have friends in Howick, Lewisham Street. "wish I was back there". Take care..... Terry
