Abiding by the law and the concept of common decency is not "utopia"; I'd consider it the prerogative of every normal human being.
You seem to suggest that we give politicians carte blanche to engage in their corruption because of xyz that goes on elsewhere.
Defending those that shaft us simply because things might be worse abroad is a peculiarly British idiom; other countries would call it abject stupidity.

I think my grandfather may have been also as every time I met him he was always going on about home Rule for Scotland . Political corruption is a way of life for many polis.
Our state premier has shut down a corruption hearing as it was centered on him and his gov, not happy about that.
