The border between Mexico and the USA is 1,954 miles long.* The latest number of customs and emigration patrolling the border is 16,751.* That's a lot you say. Well, the border is accessible to Illegals 24hrs a day seven days a week.* A one officer shift doing a 40 hr week, 5-day week would require 5 agents to fulfill that per week.* Let's discount 50% of the border as being inaccessible*by foot, (mountains etc.). We'll call it 800 accessible miles of border with 3,350 available*shifts, or 4 agents per linear mile.* But we are forgetting legal crossing entrances*to be manned, coming and going, 24hrs a day, legal visas to be checked and trucks and cars with goods to be searched for drugs etc.* Mexico is the US's largest trading partner and trucks by the thousands*cross daily with entry points from Texas in the East to San Diago in the West.
    *
Many of the interdictions are conducted in truly horrific desert conditions and require agents in pairs and helicopter support as the illegal's guides (known as coyotes) are heavily armed, plus captured illegals, traveling in caravans of twenty or more, women and children too, have to be escorted to transportation back to detention centers.* So, it would be lucky if there was 1 customs officer to miles, not a mile.

What you don't hear is the terrible deaths crossing the desert to civilization,.853 illegals, mostly women with children, died in the last 12 months. Everybody crossing the desert needs at least one gallon of drinking water.* The crossing to civilization*takes 3-5 days, as the*illegals have to hide up during part of the day to avoid spotter airplanes. One gallon of water weighs 8.3lbs. That plus something to carry that amount of water, 25-35 lbs.* Forget canvas pukka water bags, these are poor folk with no money to spare for such luxuries. Plus, they have children, many two or three (who need water too). The dead are left where they lay.* At the first sign of trouble the "coyotes' leave the illegals stranded and race back to Mexico.* They don't care, they got their money in advance $2 or $3,000.00 a head.
    *
Unfortunately, we cannot shoot the "coyotes". That would be the best way to slow it down. They get cut loose and will be back the next day with another group.

I know a load of numbers is boring reading, but I just wanted you to understand the US problem is a little more difficult than what most countries have with their illegal entry.

The French equivalent of a "coyote", just jams them*in some form of a boat and points them in the direction of England and say's "Bonne Voyage", and rounds up another boat and bears no risk or punishment as I understand it...?* And as for the dead? just a gallic shrug and "Sei la guerre."

One reason we stopped the boats here in Oz was because of the deaths at sea.
If figures ae true it was some 1700 over about a three year period.
We still have a few in detention but most have been rehoused somewhere.
We did a deal with a couple of off shore islands to store the illegals there until a decision about what to do with them was sorted.
Yes it cost a bit at the time, but well worth it.

Ex neighbor worked for immigration and told me of the pothers who attempted to gain entry. Each week about 500 would arrive by air to either Melbourne or Sydney airport.
They would try all manner of ricks such as dumping their passport down the toilet just before landing.
It was easy for them to get on a plane in some countries, very little control.
But our immigration guys were smarter than them, they could see through the false papers many carried or the forged passports. Out of the 500 about only 10 would be allowed to stay.
Last I heard the weekly numbers ae now down to less than 100.
    Our system does work.

It strikes me that most of the trouble in the UK is because the Govt sits in London at all times, here in Aus the Cabinet goes to the various city's periodically so the State Govts can get stuck in at what they think is not Kosher with the distribution of the wealth of the country. Hence you have Scotland wanting to leave the UK, take a few tugs to get where ever they are going. Wales having their own Govt ,as have Northern Ireland, all in an area that would fit in a small area of NSW. In my opinion the Govt should be moved out of their comfort zone in London , and into the Country somewhere.

Des, did read somewhere that the Labour party in UK intends, if it wins office, to open localized govs for some regions to allow the locals there to run their own show.

Could be interesting times if they try.

But come next weekend if labor win in NSW it will be very interesting to see how things go, will be the first time ever that the mainland was all one party.

France laughing all the way to the bank, £500 million. Macron could hardly keep his face straight. You can buy an awful lot of Zodiac rubber ducks for £500 million. We really are being governed by Idiots.

but, you have to remember, they did hold the Maginot line , for a while, but it was pretty quiet until the germans were behind them !!!, so they are very trustworthy.
