Welcome
Hi Keith Those words really brough memories back to me. I haven't seen or heard those words since I was an apprentice electrician at Skinningrove Iron and Steel works (1963-68). One of the guys there used to wind up one of the welders who was a Welshman. If I remember correctly there was a following verse that started "I went to Taffy's house ..." Do you know what the rest is/was? Regards Bill

Thanks Taff for the full quotation. first time I've seen it but will make sure my son and daughter read it and of course the W.R. Mike
Hello boyos!, Most interested with your earlier posts, Born Swansea Wales 1927, and draw you attention to the wars between England & Wales in the Early centuries :- This is a trilogy of Books by Sharon Penman :- 1. Here be Dragons. Publisher :- Penguin Books. 2. Falls the Shadow. " " " 3. The Reckoning. " " " For all you true Welshmen, these books are great reading of the early centuries' wars with the English. I'm from Barry, although I'm living in Holland nowadays. Was back there last week for a funeral, the Chain locker is long gone, but the shipping office, (where I signed on my first ship) is still there. Doesn't seem to be many ships using the port these days. How come there are so many Welshmen on this board? or is it just my imagination? BTW I was born in Cardiff, (Royal Iinfirmary).

We enjoy a good relationship with Brian and members on this site, hence keeep a little low key, as never wished to seem to be attempting to poach or intefere etc. We turn to you guy's first for assistance and have had much help, long may it continue. A great advocate for web sites working together, I write a little more on this subject as a Barrian, please feel free to check on Barry and her docks etc at Tregenna Web site. We further advise for War Time Barry info you visit our linked site: http://www.barrymerchantseamen.org.uk Her Name Was Tregenna is a site created as a tribute to Captain Care of Barry, South Wales and the men of one particular ship, though it now carries additional material. WE HOPE TO CONTINUE OUR GOOD RELATIONS: and thank all for every assistance, we promote ourselves a litrtle more here, under this topic only and for all Barrians in particular, although we now attempt to unite Wale MN etc. Thanks to Brian for his every support thus far and to all that make thia wonderful site, we are a little different as we act mainly in tribute, but attempt to aid all enquirers, this often with your help. Anyone local ca find us aiding Barry Branch MN (WALES) AT: BARRY AND THE TWO WORLD WARS BARRY MEMORIAL HALL AND THEATRE Saturday 22nd November 2008 10.30am to 4.00pm The 'Barry at War' 2008 Exhibition will commemorate the role that Barrians played in the conflicts of the last century. Following on from last November's hugely successful exhibition on 'Barry and the Great War', Dr Hicks and his team of volunteers will be staging a much-expanded display of artefacts, memorabilia and photographs in the Main Hall of Barry Memorial Hall on Saturday, 22nd November 2008. 'So far, no fewer than 11 re-enactment groups have pledged their support for our worthy cause,' said Dr Hicks. 'They will be staging displays during the day covering the roles that Britain, America and Germany played in the First and Second World Wars. There will also be a display of military vehicles in the car park.' 'Members of the Western Front Association will be displaying items from the Great War and the Second World War from their own personal collections. Experts from the South Wales Militaria Society will be running a Militaria 'Antiques Roadshow' and members of the public are invited to bring along Militaria items to have them assessed and valued. There will be a display on the Island Farm Prisoner of War Camp, on the role that the Merchant Seamen of Barry played in the two World Wars and refreshments will be provided in our own version of a NAAFI Canteen run by the PTFA from St Cyres School.'
