Default Nearly Forgotten by Alan Highley

    Nearly Forgotten

"So long," I said, and went.
No tears, no gifts passed either way,
No cherished token of torn-up love.
Who whispered: "Remember your sweetheart waiting?"
    "Remember your faraway sailor love?"
Not you, not I. Few words were said.
And tempest miles can't silence them
When sympathy sets them in the wind.
I just suppose your thoughts are dead.
    I suppose mine are. Nearly.
