Angharad
ANGHARAD
Contrails crossed the sky of blue,
Angharad was the girl I knew.
I was on my way to join a ship,
To do my part and make a trip.
A summer day, the weather grand,
My friend and I strolled down the Strand,
Bound by thoughts we did ignore,
Above us droned the threat of war.
I signed aboard that summer day,
And soon enough we're underway.
We left behind that wartime Hell,
Our ship would creak in ocean swell.
I often thought while out at sea,
What might become of men like me.
Angharad dwelt within my dreams,
Our rusty tramp leaked at her seams.
Back home to find my long lost friend,
Returning safe my dividend.
How many men on nameless ships,
Had lost their dreams in London Blitz?
